Does it go in the washing machine?
No. Wipe it with a damp cloth or rinse it under the shower. A diatomaceous mat has no fabric pile to launder, and a wash cycle would damage both the core and the print.
Is it hard underfoot?
Firmer than a fabric mat — closer to standing on smooth stone. The non-woven surface layer takes the edge off, and the rubber base gives it a little flex, but if you want something plush this is not the one.
