Why chenille holds so much water
Chenille yarn is spun with short fibres caught between two twisted core threads, so it carries far more surface area than a smooth yarn of the same weight. Roll that into thousands of individual bobbles standing on end and a mat this size takes up a great deal of water before the surface feels damp — which matters at a shower exit, where the floor gets more water than anywhere else in the room.
Measure the two walls, not the tray
Each arm of the L runs 80 cm, so measure along the two sides of your enclosure from the corner outwards and check both clear that. The inner angle sits against the corner of the tray and the two arms run out along the open faces, which means you step onto pile whichever door you come through rather than onto tile. How do I stop the bobbles matting together?
Shake the mat out after each wash and keep it out of the tumble dryer. Heat fuses chenille tufts into clumps, and once that happens the texture doesn't come back.
Does a deep pile mat take long to dry?
Longer than a flat one, but the gaps between the bobbles let air through, so it clears faster than a solid pile of the same depth. Hang it over the screen rather than leaving it on the floor.
