Why drainage holes decide whether a shower mat lasts
Any mat sitting in a shower tray traps water underneath it. Trapped water means limescale rings, pink mould round the edges and a mat you end up throwing out after six months. Hundreds of open holes let the water keep moving to the drain while you shower, and the cut-out in the middle means nothing dams up around the waste. Lift it out after use and both faces dry — that, more than any treatment, is what keeps it clean.
Getting the suction cups to hold
Suction only works on a smooth, clean, wet surface. Rinse the tray so there is no shower gel film, wet the tray and the underside of the mat, lay it down and press firmly from the middle outwards until the cups bite. If the cups will not hold, the tray almost certainly has a textured or anti-slip finish moulded into it — that is the surface, not the mat. A quick rinse of the cups every week keeps them gripping.

Will it fit my shower?
Measure the flat floor of your tray, not the outside of the enclosure. At 69 x 69 cm it suits a standard 700 or 760 mm square tray and sits comfortably inside an 800 mm one. It is soft enough to sit flush against a slightly raised lip at the edges.
Is the surface hard on bare feet?
No. The domes are soft and rounded rather than spiky, so they give grip and a gentle massage underfoot rather than digging in. The PVC itself is flexible, which is also why it lies flat on a tray that is not perfectly level.
