How the three layers work together
The top layer is a diatom-mud fabric — soft and flexible, not one of the hard stone slabs sold under the same name. It takes water off your feet the moment you step on, rather than letting it sit on the surface. Underneath, an open foam layer pulls that water away from the top and spreads it out so it evaporates fast, which is why the mat is dry again by the time you next walk in. The rubber base does the unglamorous part: it stops all of that sliding across a tiled floor.

Can I wash it?
Wash it cool and air dry it flat. Heat is what hardens a rubber base and damages a foam core, so keep it out of the tumble dryer and off a hot radiator. Between washes, a shake and a wipe is usually enough given how quickly the surface dries.
Is the pattern printed or woven?
Printed. That is why the linework is so crisp — a woven or tufted version of this basketweave would lose all its definition. Wash it inside out and skip the bleach to keep the black sharp against the cream.
