The sail is a single flat block of navy against that texture, which is what makes it read cleanly from across the room. A printed version of the same picture would go flat within a few months; tufted, the relief lasts as long as the mat.

Cream with navy, rather than navy with cream

The proportions matter. A mostly navy mat would darken a bathroom; keeping the ground cream and the motif navy means the room stays light and the boat becomes the one point of focus. That also makes it easier to place — it sits against white tile, chrome and pale wood without needing anything else to change. Wash it cool and skip the fabric softener so the tufts keep their lift.
